About Liv

Our artist on the spectrum

Liv came into the world full of energy, ideas and artistic ability. But it took us a little while to figure that out. When she was two years old, Liv began therapy to help her learn to communicate using words and gestures. It was at this time we learned she had autism. Liv was later also diagnosed with ADHD.

Liv’s first drawings were simple spirals and swirls. Pages and pages of them. One day, a spiral became a snail… soon followed by a variety of other animals.

But it wasn’t until Liv got her first Wacom tablet at 10 years old that her creative energy was really unleashed. What she drew was a parade of charming and captivating creatures, a magical menagerie of her own making.

Our Family

We are a family of four living in Asia. Both Liv and her brother attend a wonderful international school. From her very first day, Liv has been privileged to work with an amazing support team. It was the head of the support staff who suggested a project that could help strengthen Liv’s sense of her own abilities, and also make the world a cuter place. Thus, Surprise Confetti was born.

Her dad has devoted his spare time to figuring out how to set up a website and merchandise business, while Liv continues to contribute her art. Her mom has offered support with the writing, while her brother has done his part by just being a great sibling and “Liv’s favorite person”.

About Surprise Confetti

Making connections since 2023

Our goal for Surprise Confetti is to give legs to Liv’s art. Seeing her creatures out in the real world has been a big thrill for her.

At the same time, we also hope that people who buy her merchandise get something more than the mug or tote bag that comes in the mail.

Early on in the process of setting up the website, we discovered that Liv’s animals with attitude were also really relatable. With social divisions seeming to widen every day, it felt like a good time to be reminded of the things we share. Even annoying things like alarm clocks.

Liv named the website after one of her favorite toys - a container that first showered you in colored paper before revealing a gift inside. Turns out, it’s a great metaphor for her art. Surprise Confetti is fun on the outside with a little message at its core: life can be hard on everyone, so let’s take a moment to laugh together.

Finances

Donations & transparency

Liv has always had a special place in her heart for all creatures, great and small. She led an effective pressure campaign at home that got us switching to cruelty-free versions of products like toothpaste and shampoo. In order to honor Liv’s values, Surprise Confetti will donate a portion of any profits to animal-related charities of Liv’s choice. You can read updates in the news section.

Lastly, our goal is to bring Liv’s art to the world at an affordable price. As such, we are making very little profit on any sale, usually a few dollars. Kindly contact us for more information.
